The first Washizu in Holland Tournament took place in the Dutch town of Arnhem, Summer 2010. There were 24 competitors. One year later, a reprise took place in Nijmegen, with 20 players.

The Washizu in Holland Tournament is a friendly competition without any formal status. It is based on the Japanese manga Akagi. In this comic the main character, Akagi Shigeru, plays a deadly riichi game against the evil spirit Washizu. For their game, they use a set which consists of tiles of which three out of every four is transparent.
